As President, David is responsible for the overall planning and coordination of the various activities of the association. He presides at all the major meetings, serves as DAMTA’s representative to the CSMTA Advisory Council and MTNA, and is a member of many committees.
David comes from a musical family. Some of his earliest memories are of sitting by his mother in the viola section during orchestra rehearsals, or by his father in the trombone section, or his grandmother in the cellos.
He began piano lessons at age six with pioneering conductor Antonia Brico. Later he studied with Samuel Lancaster, the principal keyboardist for the Colorado Symphony. He had the privilege of studying with the great Mexican pianist, Maria Teresa Rodriguez during a couple of her stays in Colorado.
David earned a B.A. in Music Theory and Composition from St. Olaf College. There he studied piano with A. DeWayne Wee, and sang in the St. Olaf Choir.
David received a Master’s Degree in psychology from Lesley College and worked for almost a decade as a psychotherapist, teaching piano lessons on the side. In 2008 he set aside his private practice to focus on music, teaching, and composing.
David is an avid reader and loves to cook, write, and spend time with his husband and his dogs.
